With all the action happening at the convention center with tons of competitions from bodybuilding and the worlds strongest man competition to chess, one organization with a huge presence is the After-School All-Stars, which helps kids with after-school programs to keep them off the streets from gangs, violence, and drugs. The ASAS of Ohio have a booth every year at the convention. In the past years, you could find autographed framed pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger and other rare Arnold items. This year, they had three main products. One shirt was the “Come With Me If You Want To Lift Shirt, which Arnold has featured on his online videos pumping up at Gold’s Gym. The second shirt has the famous manshake from Predator which says “It’s Time To Lift, You Son of A B!#ch” And the last item was a As Seen On TV item called Bright Bugz, which are these little bugs you put on your finger tip and light up. All proceeds went to the After School All-Stars. Everybody working the booth was pumped up and even Arnold stopped by to sign some shirts to go on sale as well.
For the past 4 years, I have been fortunate and blessed to go the After-School All-Stars Experience event. The goal is to have a lot of fun and to raise a lot of money for this great cause. Featured guests have included Randy Couture, Mindy Robinson, Lou Ferrigno, Rick Flair, Evander Holyfield, Triple H, Apolo Ono, Johnny Bench, Big Show, WWE wrestlers etc.
This year, Randy Couture returned with Mindy Robinson, Bas Rutten, Phil Koegan, Chris Kirkpatrick, Matt Iseman, and the legend Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It was a sold out event. It featured great food, the best cigars from Tinder Box Easton, a great DJ and drinks. In the room, it also featured an Arnold ice sculpture.
TheArnoldFans.com staff was able to get a exclusive interview with the man himself. Ryan the Gillinator sat next to both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer at a table interviewing them about the 30th anniversary of the Arnold Sports Festival and even got in a movie question.
Arnold allowed us to take a group picture. This was very awesome!
Adrian Pavel was able to get some answers from Randy Couture on the upcoming Expendables 4 movie, which will be filmed in Romania later on this year, once the script gets finalized.
A great speech was given by Governor John Kasich, Tracy Ensign from ASAS Ohio and Arnold Schwarzenegger, talking about the importance of after school programs and giving back. After the wonderful speech, Matt Iseman comes out to pump up the crowd for items to auction. Memorabillia included a Terminator 3 Crew Jacket, which included a picture with Arnold (the winner was Dr. Bob Goldman founder of the International Sports Hall of Fame and donor of the Arnold Statue), and a limited edition Governor Schwarzenegger Ring which he has been seen on Arnold when he was governor. The winner of the ring was Cory Gregory from Max Effort Muscle.
It is such an honor to be able to hang around my idol in the same room every year. The event keeps getting better and better. We look forward to next year’s event. Stay fantastic, After-School All Stars!
In the wake of the cool release of the all new Terminator Genisys 1:2 Scale Endoskeleton Bust, now for sale, Paul Francis of Chronicle Collectibles says the future of Terminator collectibles will remain strong! Not only does he say he’d like to do a Terminator "Spider Tank” piece at some point, they’ll also be doing a life-sized 1:1 Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator bust with battle damage and a very real looking Arnold eye. "We're going to engineer the 1-1 to have the skull insert, transparent skin and painted down with real hair and electronics," Paul says. "Toynami does excellent life sized busts and based on the recent MIB bust I have no doubt this one will be epic as well."
Now back to this new T-800 from Chronicle Collectibles. This T-800 the third release in Chronicle Collectibles' Terminator Genisys busts and perfectly complements the previous Battle Damaged and “Clean” bust releases. For the first time ever, Chronicle Collectibles will use a new process to give the 1:2 Scale Endoskeleton Bust a gorgeous chrome plated appearance.

Chronicle Collectibles tells TheArnoldFans that if we can prove there are enough Terminator collectors worldwide with interest to buy a T-3000 bust, they would consider making him too! While the Endoskeleton is more iconic and should sell very well, we believe a T-3000 would also be very appreciated by collectors, considering this John Connor lead villain has never been produced by any action figure or statue-producing company.
It was a great time in Columbus, Ohio, where they pulled out all the stops for the 30th anniversary of the Arnold Classic. Arnold started it off by introducing all of the living past winners of the Classic, bringing them out on stage to great applause. The stage was reminiscient of the Roman Coliseum, with a reproduction of the iconic Arnold statue overseeing it all. Meanwhile the real Arnold was taking Snapchats and selfies during some of the competitors' posing routines. William "The Conqueror" Bonac was eventually declared the winner of the Mens' Bodybuilding Finals. It was his first professional appearance there, having competed in the Arnold Amateur in 2011. William is a Ghana native now living in the Netherlands. In second was long-time Arnold competitor (and winner) Dexter Jackson, and in third was Cedric McMillan.
Bonac received congratulations from Arnold Schwarzenegger, a check for $130,000, a Tony Nowak Official Champions Jacket and the champion’s trophy from Catherine Colle of Midway Labs USA and Eric Hillman of Optimum Nutrition.
Hafthor Bjornsson of Iceland (known as the actor who plays "Mountain" in Game of Thrones) won the Arnold Strongman Classic for the first time after he'd been competing for 8 straight years. Bjornsson set a new world record in the ROGUE Elephant Bar Deadlift by locking in an amazing 1,041 pounds.
Other highlights of the evening included some amazing acrobatic/balance performers, and of course the Lifetime Achievement award, which went to Dr. Robert Goldman. "Dr. Bob" is a longtime friend of Arnold and founder of the International Sports Hall of Fame, who have their own awards during the weekend (which we also attended). He is also the one to thank for donating the funds for the famous Arnold Statue which is now outside the convention center in Columbus. It was great to see Dr. Bob getting this prestigious recognition for his lifetime of promoting fitness and giving back.
After the Finals wrapped up its epic 3.5 hour run time, the competitors, fans, and Arnold partied the night away at the Party With the Pros, which this year came back to Express Live! near the baseball stadium in Columbus.
While we were at the Arnold Classic in Ohio, our own Ryan Gillen and Adrian Pavel had the interview opportunity to sit down with Patrick Schwarzenegger to talk about his new film release, "Midnight Sun” by Open Road Films. Patrick accompanies his father to the Arnold Classic almost every year so he also gave his fans a special screening of the film in Columbus Ohio. TheArnoldFans sat with Patrick to discuss his new movie, his goals, fitness, his dad and more.
"The movie is really a heart-felt, coming-of-age story but t’s not your ordinary love story,” Patrick begins. "It’s different because it’s dealing with someone who has a rare genetic disorder called XP (Xeroderma pigmentosum), which is what Bella’s character has and even the smallest amount of sunlight can be proven deadly so it’s kind of how this relationship is going to function with this disease she has. It’s through my character that I sort of pull her out of this life of isolation and will she finally be able to live a life of a moral teenager and embark on an experience of love. So it’s really just an overall beautiful story. It’s fun, it’s funny, and you have to bring your tissue because it will make you cry a little. But the fun thing about this is that it’s for all ages, weather you’re a 14-year-old girl in high school, or a college student or a mom and dad who wants to bring your family. I mean, it’s for everyone."
In Midnight Sun, Patrick had to retrain his fitness routine to focus more on his character who is a swimmer.
"This is one of the best shapes I’ve been in my life," Patrick tells us. "Because of the swimming (for this film), the change from lifting weights to going into the pool for 1 to 2 hours everyday is such a change on your body and the amount of eating you have to do is so different because there’s so much cardio - and it’s full body! It’s not only getting your heart rate up, your lower and upper body is also being utilized. And then with The Long Road Home, I did a lot of military stuff, like long distance running and a lot of weight training. I was probably about 25 pounds heavier for The Long Road Home vs Midnight Sun but it was completely opposite genre films and completely opposite training."
Arnold Schwarzenegger gave his son some encouragement.
"My whole family is always supportive of what I do,” says Patrick. "They're always asking ‘What do I love? Is that acting? Is that business? Do you want to be a teacher? A politician? What is it? We’ll be supportive of whatever it is you want to do.’ He’s always said that to me. He’s always said, ‘Do what you love and if you practice every day, you have potential to be the best at what you want to do.”
Patrick also tells TheArnoldFans that one day it would be a goal to work with his father in a movie. Naturally, before we let Patrick go, we had to ask him what his top three favorite films are from his dad’s filmography.
"When I was younger,” Patrick begins, "I grew up watching the ones that were suitable for by age so I liked Kindergarten Cop. That was always one of my favorites. But as I grew up it was True Lies, Terminator and Predator became my favorites."
We had a few other questions for Patrick Schwarzenegger too so you can watch our video below to see and hear more! Thank you Patrick! We’re looking forward to seeing this film and all your other upcoming projects!
Midnight Sun opens this Friday: March 23rd, 2018!

How scary was that, when we learned in late March that Arnold Schwarzenegger had a major operation? When it was first announced, fans around the globe feared the worst during the first few hours. Luckily we didn’t have to wait too long for the news that he woke up shortly after to his first words of “I’m back.” We all knew our favorite action hero underwent heart surgery in 1997 (a few months after we launched TheArnoldFans website). We also knew the time would come when the valve would need to be replaced. Schwarzenegger recently divulged that he was starting to feel tired in the last couple of years due to his valve weakening so he scheduled the surgery which didn’t go as smoothly as he had hoped. Still, the great doctors performed the risky yet successful operation. Weeks later, sitting at his home table, Arnold made a video saying thank you to the fans for the loving support and that he was feeling "good" but "not great yet.”
On May 4th, Arnold was back again with a video update. No longer did he look wiped of energy and speaking slowly, as he did in the previous video. Now Schwarzenegger was upbeat and walking, temporarily with a cane, out of his “favorite restaurant”. In the second video, Arnold sounded much better and more jovial but still his vocals are strained from the tubes that were invasively down his throat. He’s getting better every day.
On the positive side of having the operation, If all goes according to plan, and it should, Arnold will have a stronger heart than what it has been for the past few years. After his recovery time, Arnold can get back into doing cardio. Knowing Arnold, it will probably be less than a month until we see those paparazzi photos of our hero riding his bike all over Santa Monica.
Many fans write us, concerned with Arnold’s health and are worried for the future of his film projects. Can Arnold, who will turn 71 in a couple months and who had his second heart operation, come BACK to being a great action hero? Some things will certainly need a change but for the most part, Arnold can continue on with the right action hero projects.
Aside from Conan the Barbarian, Commando and The Running Man, Arnold usually doesn’t do all that much on screen running. His current characters may do one quick running scene or a crazy stunt but Schwarzenegger is mostly known as a stoic, brutal puncher. Arnold is king of punches, one liners and is the master of firing ridiculously big firm-arms. This is the niche Arnold has carved out for himself and considering he isn’t the Jackie Chan or Van Damme kicker or a Stallone runner, Arnold, can still do what he does best for many more years to come!
I don’t think we’ll every get Schwarzenegger running all over the place in films and jumping over barriers and going over waterfalls anymore but for the fans who ask can Arnold still play the Terminator, the answer is “absolutely!” Terminators shoot guns, lift heavy objects and punch through walls…and many of these skills are achieved by special effects. Filming begins in a few months for Arnold and since Terminator don’t run, everything that is required of the Terminator character will be a piece of cake for Arnold!
In a perfect world, Arnold’s agent could push for him to lend his voice to characters more. In 2013, I spoke with Arnold about possibly lending his voice to an Avengers CGI character (hinting at Thanos). It even turned out that the person who created Thanos always envisioned Arnold to play him in a film some day. With Arnold now in his 70s, he can easily continue to be a Terminator but fans really do wish Arnold’s film agents would also push heavier for him to lend the world’s most recognizable and coolest voice to some CG characters for Marvel, Disney and DC and LucasFilm.
I'm not too sure about Conan anymore (hope I’m wrong), however, his other films such as Twins 2, Kung Fury and Outrider for Amazon are all easily doable for Arnold in his own brand of ass kicking fighting techniques. Arnold can shoot and punch his way out of this current health slump. His heart will be pumping strong. As they say in Pumping Iron, Arnold is now “the wolf climbing the hill.” Arnold will no doubt stay hungry...and the fans thirst for his comeback.
Sven: (Smiles) You’re welcome. Always ready to tell stories from my 40 years in Hollywood, so let’s get this Q&A going.
Sven: I had opened my gym, Sporting Health Club, in 1972 and we had seminars with Frank Zane, Mike Menzer, Kalman Szkalak amongst others. Then in 1978, when Arnold was promoting “Pumping Iron”, a local cinema contacted me and wanted to to a deal with the gym abouting inviting Arnold to the danish premier in Copenhagen. Unfortunately the cinema pulled out, as it was too expensive for them, but then I decided to finance Arnolds visit myself. We introduced “Pumping Iron” and bodybuilding to Denmark and had a great time doing so.
Later that year when I was in Long Beach for a martial arts competition (Sven is a 5th degree black belt in shotokan karate), I called Arnold and he was going to visit John Milius, who at the time was writing the script for Conan the Barbarian. “Come along, meet John” Arnold said. Based on my size in those days, over 320 punds, John was so impressed, that he wanted to write a part in Conan for me and asked if I could come up with at good viking name…and that’s how Thorgrim was born.
Sven: We created a camaraderie during the months of shooting Conan the Barbarian - working out, pulling pranks, smoking cigars. We just clicked. Now that I have moved to from Santa Monica to Spain, we don’t talk as often, as but we still stay in touch.
Sven: There are very few people like Arnold. He’s an extraordinary human being - the terminator. Now he just needs to take the time to recover, and I am sure that he will be back stronger than ever.
Sven: The hammer was in the script. It was extremely heavy, weighing 55 pounds, and we practised the movements several hours every day. It was so heavy, that sheer force could pull you when swinging it. In a scene where I am on a horseback, fighting Arnold with the hammer, the weight and force of swinging the hammer actually pulled me out of the saddle and off the horse - even at 320 pounds. Fell off the horse several times, before we got the shot.
Sven: Yeah. John was hospitalized at one point, so when I visited him, I brought the hammer and gave it to back to him. It’s giant doorstopper at his house last time I checked.
Sven: Family.. my beautiful wife, children and grand children, but that wasn’t always the case. But that’s a story for another time and you’ll be able to read all about it in my book.
Sven: I remember the first time I saw Conan the Barbarian at the end of the movie when Arnold is sitting on the throne as an older king, and it left such an impression on me. I’m sure that Conan is very close to his heart, and we often talk about the days in Spain because we spent so long there shooting the first Conan, and we were really bonding with all the stuntmen and all the actors. I always like the bearded look on him, just sitting on his throne ruling the lands. He has the age to reprise his role, and I for one would love it to happen…but will it? I just don’t know. Would I be interested in being a part of another Conan adventure - if it fits the story, absolutely.
Sven: First of all, I must say that John Milius is one of the best writers, best directors in Hollywood. When the production was about to begin, John called me from Spain and said “I’m shooting Conan the Barbarian. Could you bring 10 of your big friends to work on the set for the next 6 months?”. I arranged photo sessions with my friends - powerlifters, bodybuilders, track and field athletes, shotputters and so forth - and sent pictures to John. When we arrived in Spain, John had named the team from Denmark “The Animals”, based on the photos I’d sent.
There was 10 stuntmen from the US, 10 from Spain and 10 of us from Denmark. We spent almost 7 months in Spain on 17 different locations and had a ball. Every lunch was 5 dinner menus for the cast and crew, with wine, cheese and fruit. I said to myself: “Wait a minute.. this is heaven on earth, playing cowboys and Indians during the day and being treated like kings.”
We all got a little tipsy during those lunches, and had lot of food fights and fun. It was a fantastic time.
Sven: Fleischer was concerned that my character was killed in the first movie, and yet here I was. Wearing a big helmet with limited exposure of my face helped, so finally he agreed. Togra’s fight with Conan was fun. Both of us almost chopped off each others fingers, but fortunately we stayed at “almost”. A few cuts and bruises, but nothing serious.
Sven: It was, yes. In a previous scene Killian refers to Svens lack of hearing - “did steroids make you deaf”, so it tied perfectly in to the expected showdown when Sven walks up the stairs. Unfortunately for Killian, Sven was sympathetic to the uprising.
Sven: (Laughs) Only in a wheelchair. … Nah, I don’t think Sven would return as a stalker. Unless they build him an exoskeleton battle-suit.
Sven: We always had a great time in the gym. On a set or just working out at World Gym. I was always stronger than Arnold in those basic lifts - the deadlift, squats and the bench press, but my favourite exercise would be the bench press, regularly pressing 500+ pounds for reps.
Usually I was in charge of setting up Arnolds mobile gym at a movie set, and one time when we were filming “Predator” I set up the gym as usual, and the other cast members wanted to use the gym. I wasn’t hired as an instructor or anything, but when someone wanted to use the gym, I helped them settle in. So I came up with the idea, that they had to pay for membership - a bottle of Dom Pérignon. Whenever the occasion required champagne I went to my room and got 10-20 bottles of Dom Perignon. Arnold was wondering where all the bottles came from, so when I told him about it, he just smiled. It was his gym, but he enjoyed the champagne with the rest of us.
Arnold fan Dávid Almássy from Budapest, Hungary was happy to share with us his personal photos while meeting Schwarzenegger at his own home! David was fortunate enough to get an invitation to the annual Westime Western Charity Night which helped raise 2.1 million for Arnold’s After-School All-stars this weekend!
Dávid Almássy writes: "We just had the awesome opportunity last weekend with my beautiful wife Reka and a lovely friend of ours to participate on the Westime Charity Night in the Governor’s house benefitting After-School All-Stars. This was the greatest party ever as we participated, enjoyed all the special programs, and met many wonderful and kind people. This night also gave us a professional picture. Arnold is COMPLETELY COMMITED to ASAS and any projects he believes in."
Dávid Almássy also shares his backstory on being an Arnold fan. “It all started in 1991 when I was 7 years old and I saw Conan the Barbarian on TV with my father. My father told me I was watching the movie almost without blinking and with open mouth! Right after the film, I said “I want to see every movie of Uncle Conan now!” Since that day, I am an Arnold Schwarzenegger fan. I started working out in the gym at age 16 and watched every Arnold movie.
I admire Arnold's bodybuilding, film and political career, as he stands up for children (After-School All-Stars) and fights against climate change. Now at the age of 70, he is still strong, wakes up early in the morning, gets on his bike and goes to the gym before actually starting the day.
I met Arnold first in 2015 in Budapest. He did a fantastic one hour speech on goals and vision. I loved every word of it. Of course I’ve seen it already before on youtube, but it's so different when Arnold is standing only a few meters from you, you can feel the energy and motivation just charging you up.
I am a lucky person as my wife Reka Engyel also admires Arnold. We had our wedding last year in Honolulu, and hold our one month-long Honeymoon in Hawaii, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. We had another great chance during this time to meet Arnold now together with Reka twice, a friend of ours introduced us to him. The Governor was very nice and kind, as always. He insisted to make the selfie of the three of us.”
Ben Combes: Hey Shahi, thank you very much for having me !! We are working hard on the movie right now!
TheArnoldFans: Commando Ninja sounds like a kickass title. What is the story about?
Ben Combes: Thanks ! That title brings together my 2 favorite 80's action movies : Commando and American Ninja. Commando Ninja is an over-the-top action comedy, tribute to the 80's action hero movies. The story follows a Vietnam Green Beret vet, half Commando, half Ninja, whose daughter has been abducted by a secret Ninja Organization, led by a Central-American dictator, who wants to create a new-world order... through time.
TheArnoldFans: What inspired you to create this film?
Ben Combes: The project came to life 7 years ago I began to have that idea of making my tribute to the 80’s Action Heroes, for wich I had an obsession since my childhood because of my father VHS. We shot some tests with friends, but didn’t have the skills yet. Then Drive, Far Cry Blood Dragon, Kung Fury, Expandables and Turbo Kid dropped, the 80’s comeback era was here, I met Eric Carlesi, our Main Actor, and listen to Ogre awesome soundtracks. Everything was here to start the movie!
I was inspired by my favorite movies that I watch each year, like Commando, Rambo, Predator, Terminator, American Ninja, 3 Ninjas, Home Alone, Mad Max, Kickboxer, Karate Kid...
TheArnoldFans: How long is the film? Where was this filmed?
Ben Combes: The film will be 45 minutes long, and it's entirely shot around my home city Montpellier, in the south of France.
TheArnoldFans: When is the release date? What media platforms will this be available in?
Ben Combes: We hope to release the movie around the month of October, it will be available for free on my Youtube Channel. You will also be able to buy some nice Bluray with Extra Bonus and VHS on our Shop!
TheArnoldFans: For fans of the film, any merchandising ideas? Where can one purchase a poster or other items?
Ben Combes: Hey, so it's not done yet, but we will open an online shop when everything will be done. You'll be able to purchase the rewards from the kickstarter, tee-shirts, posters, bl-rays, VHS.... and even exclusive Action Figures!!
TheArnoldFans: Have you reached out to Arnold Schwarzenegger or any 80s action stars for some type of cameo?
Ben Combes: Noooo, this is impossible.
TheArnoldFans: I know there is a movie called Kung Fury. Would you say this is similar to it?
Ben Combes: Kung Fury was a huge source of motivation, when I saw their success on youtube I was really happy to see that there were a lot of people who had the same nostalgia for the 80's than us. It's not similar because we are not doing a parody, and it's all shot on real locations with practical effects. But it's similar in the way that it's an independent movie tribute to the 80's action movies.
TheArnoldFans: What other projects are you working on?
Ben Combes: I’m a video editor at Ubisoft since 9 years now, so I'm actually working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Space Junkies (a VR game). About my personal projects, I got a lot to do after Commando Ninja, but the priority is to finish this one!
TheArnoldFans: What is your top 5 Arnold Schwarzenegger movies?
Ben Combes:
Commando
Predator
Terminator 2
Total Recall
Conan
Ben Combes: On our Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/bencombes1986/
Ben Combes: Thanks very much to you also. I love your page!
When you think of sci-fi films meshed with heavy action, you’d be lying to yourself if you said Arnold Schwarzenegger is not THE original prototype of the genre. The good news for fans who do not have AMC, or those who just prefer reading to watching TV shows is you can now own the series as a book!

It’s another year older, wiser, and stronger for the fantastic Arnold Schwarzenegger! At 71 years young, he shows no sign of letting up or retiring from his busy jobs like making more movies (he’s currently filming The Terminator), crusading for various passions like gerrymandering, the environment, fitness, and After-School All-Stars, chatting with his fans on social media and of course shaming President Trump (and some Facebook commenters) in glorious fashion. This is all in addition to fully recovering from an open-heart surgery a few months ago! There’s no doubt, the man Is a machine.
If you’re in the Orlando, Florida area, you can join in one of the biggest Arnold parties, Arnold Day, which is a full day of food, beer, and Arnold movies playing on screens throughout the bar. Plus, they only ask for donations to Arnold’s favorite program, After-School All-Stars, with an open invitation for the man himself to come join the fun!
Otherwise, do like the rest of us do, and throw your own Arnold Party, then be sure to send us pictures and we’ll post them so Arnold can see all of his great fans having a blast on his birthday! Be sure to have Arnocorps music playing to set the mood, and light up some stogies!
Finally, listen to a special episode of Arnold Radio News, hosted by our own Gillinator, Brandon Krum, and Shahi!
